Biography

 

Anne painting Anne Gibson Snyder paints from life, preferring to work outdoors.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Anne traveled throughout the United States as a child with her Navy family. Anne has been painting as long as she can remember. She began formal art training at the age of nine in Newport, Rhode Island with noted artist/art educator Edwin Connelly.

A studio art major at Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Anne followed an independent study course with the distinguished Virginia painter Julien Binford. She was honored at graduation with the Schnellock award, given to the most promising painter.

After teaching art at Frederick High School in Frederick, Maryland for two years, Anne opened the Catepetl Art Gallery, the first of its kind in the area. She received an Athena award from the Chamber of Commerce as business woman (owner) of the year.

Telephone Directory - The Beach Book In 2000, Anne was given a one person show at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, Maryland. Her work was featured on the cover of the Outer Banks, North Carolina phone directory the same year.

Anne received the Meredith Springer Award given by The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in June of 2005. The award recognizes accomplishments in the field of art as well as leadership in the Frederick Arts Community.

nine artists: 25 years displayed Anne's work along with eight other artists in November of 2006. The exhibition illustrated the emergence of art in Frederick County from the early 1970s. The month long show featured a donor-supported, full color catalog.

In September 2007 Anne was one of 25 artists selected for the annual Paint Annapolis juried competition sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association.

Anne continues to operate the Catepetl Art Studio.
